Tonight’s episode of Chicago Fire begins with Casey meeting his niece Violet at a diner, she has a black eye. He asks where her mother is, but Violet says that she needs his help, she got in a fight at school and she needs someone to sign the note from her principal. Casey agrees to sign the paper, and is concerned when Violet mentions that she and her mom moved again. Casey heads to work and tells Dawson that Kristy moved Violet to Logan Square and jammed her in to some huge public school.

In the bathroom Casey finds Kelley throwing up in the stall, Kelley confesses to him that he is hung over. While he is washing his face in the sink the siren goes off and there is a structural fire. Everyone rushes to their trucks, but Cruz still isn’t allowed to drive, so Otis has to and can barely get the truck out of the garage.

They arrive at the fire and a man runs out and says that there was men working on the 5th and 6th floor. Casey and Dawson head up to the roof, and then there is a an explosion on the fifth floor and a man flies out on to the balcony. Crus scales the ladder to get the guy off the balcony and grabs him and brings him down.

Meanwhile the roof goes up in flames and they can’t get the ladder back up to them. Casey and Dawson have to use their bail-out gear and scale the side of the building. Boden arrives at the scene and demands to know why one of his lieutenants are up ventilating the roof instead of in the building.

When they get back to the fire Boden calls Cruz in to his office, he commends him for taking the ladder from the roof and using it to save the man on the balcony. Cruz thanks him, and says it is great to be back on duty.

Casey pays Kristy a visit and wants to know why she moved. He reveals that he signed Violet’s detention slip for her, and got her new address off the paper. Kristy reassures him that everything is under control and she and Jim will talk to the school, she tells him not to worry about her and reassures him they are going to be fine.

Sylvie runs in to Kelley in the breakroom and he invites her to go out for drinks with them after work. She says that her ex-fiance is in town, and she doesn’t know if they are getting back together. He asks her if she is moving back home and she reassures him she isn’t.

Herman is yelling at Dawson about how to properly wax the fire trucks. Casey interrupts them and says he needs to talk to Dawson, he rants about his sister being too proud to take money from him. Meanwhile, Herman is furious that Casey keeps bailing Dawson out and giving her breaks.

Casey pays Kristy’s husband Jim a visit, and offers to help pay for Violet’s school. He learns that Jim and Kristy are getting a divorce and Jim is dating his secretary. He tells Jim he is a “real piece of work” and storms out of the office.

Casey heads back to the firehouse and drags Dawson in to the locker room and fills her in on what happened at Jim’s office. He wants to do some digging on Jim, Dawson tells him he should have Adam look him up. Meanwhile Boden calls all of the firefighters involved with Molly’s outside, he wants to know how much longer their debunk food truck is going to be parked outside.
Herman sneaks in to Boden’s office and says that they need to talk, he tells him that the situation with Casey and Dawson is not going to work out. Casey is playing favorites, and they can’t have a candidate date their lieutenant. Boden tells him that he has absolute faith that they will find a way to deal with it. Herman’s not happy but he says, “got it chief message received.”

Sylvie and Mills head to the bridge where a man is being arrested for wandering around in his underwear. Sylvie asks him what his name is, and he starts growling at her and tries to bite her. They load him in to the ambulance and he begins attacking them again, they have no choice but to give him a tranquilizer shot.

Casey heads to the police station to talk to Adam, Mouch tags along to get the parking tickets that were left on the food truck taken care of. Casey gives Adam Jim’s name and says he owns a company named Jordan Development, Adam agrees to do some poking around. Meanwhile, Trudy tells Mouch that he has to go downstairs and pay his tickets, she won’t help him out.

Boden goes to upper management and tries to get Cruz back behind the wheel, they inform him that Cruz is not allowed to drive for three months and there is nothing they can do about it.

Kelley heads to the bar with Connie. He insists that he doesn’t bring his drinking to work, and the day that he shows up drunk she has his permission to fire him.

Sylvie heads home to her house in the dark and finds the door kicked in, she walks inside and her entire house has been completely ransacked and destroyed. While she is on the floor crying and going through her stuff, a man dressed in black comes walking down her hallway, the intruder is still in the house. She hits him with a baseball bat and manages to grab her stuff from him, he runs out the door and she calls 911.

Adam pays Casey a visit and says that he and his receptionist are definitely hooking up. But, he has been lying to Kristy, he isn’t broke and far from it. He actually is raking in the cash, but he signed the company over to his receptionist Carey, so in the divorce Kristy isn’t going to get a dime.

Harrison arrives at the station, and tells Sylvie he has the u-haul ready for her to move. Sylvie tells him that she isn’t ready to leave, and Harrison argues that she isn’t made for this life in Chicago. Sylvie suddenly remembers why it wasn’t working out with them, she is sick of him cutting her down and not believing in her. A call comes over the radio and Harrison warns her that if she leaves he won’t be here when she gets back. She ignores his leaving and hops in the ambulance.

They arrive at an office building, and learn that something went wrong with the elevator and it went flying up to the top floor. They pry the doors open to the elevator, but they can’t get the inside doors open. They have Herman crawl through the crack to try and pry the doors open from the inside. As soon as he drops in to the elevator, it flies back down the shaft to the bottom floor.

They race back down to the bottom floor and Herman yells that he is okay. He says that there is woman inside with a serious spinal injury. They manage to get the doors pried open and Mills and Sylvie rush in and get the woman on a backboard and out safely.

Back at the fire house Boden demands that they get rid of the Molly’s truck ASAP. Boden calls Cruz in to his house and reveals that he got his suspension lifted. Meanwhile out in the firehouse Dawson and Herman get in to a screaming match over her candidacy, she tells him that he wants her to succeed, but the dynamics of this situation aren’t working. Dawson volunteers to shadow Herman from now on instead of Casey, and insists she can learn a lot from him, Herman agrees.

Casey pays his sister Kristy a visit and reveals that Jim has been sleeping with his receptionist for over a year, he tells her that she can’t let him get away with it. She cries that she doesn’t care, she just wants to get on with her life. Violet comes downstairs and Casey reassures her that everything is going to be okay.
