With 13 episodes in the books and new ones dropping every week, Home Sweet Rome is the perfect show to add to your summer watchlist.

According to a recent press release, “Home Sweet Rome centers on 13-year-old Lucy (Kensington Tallman), who moves from California to start a new life in Rome with her dad and stepmom, Francesca (Eleonora Facchini) – who happens to be an Italian pop star!”

“With new friends, amazing food, haute fashion, and a best friend who is thousands of miles away, Lucy discovers what the meaning of ‘When in Rome’ is all about as her adventures abroad get underway. As Lucy learns to adapt to her new city, new school, and new life, she’s also navigating through the growing pains of being a teenager while discovering her own musical talent,” the press release continued.

In an exclusive interview, the star of the must-see series, Kensington Tallman, talked ALL about Home Sweet Rome, from its insane musical numbers to her character growth and more.

“Home Sweet Rome is about my character, Lucy, moving all the way from America to Rome, Italy, because her mom sadly passes away,” Kensington shared with Celeb Secrets reporter Melanie Rooten.

“Her dad gets remarried to an Italian pop star, and so Lucy’s life has been turned upside down and she’s trying to find her way in this new country, trying to learn the language, trying to make new friends,” she continued.

In addition to ALL of this, Lucy is dealing with grief while dealing with a new family member.

“She also struggles with anxiety and she has ADHD and I think these are very relatable aspects for a young teenage girl or boy,” Kensington revealed to us. “I definitely found Lucy very relatable and I think everybody as they watch the show, no matter where you are in the world, are just going to be able to relate to these characters individually.”

Because of everything she has endured up until this point, “you want to root for Lucy” throughout the beloved series, making for a one-of-a-kind show that is sure to tug on your heartstrings.

When it comes to her character in particular, the 14-year-old described Lucy as “a fun-loving, optimistic girl, and she’s very clumsy… At the end of the day, no matter what happens, no matter what life throws at her, Lucy will always get back up (literally), and she will just make the best out of any situation.”

“I think just her resilience and her grit to keep going no matter what was really inspiring just to see that, you know, if you work hard and if you just keep going, you can do anything, and if you just be yourself, amazing things can happen,” Kensington gushed, sharing a lesson that is VERY valuable to all viewers of Home Sweet Rome.

After trying so hard to adjust to her new life and fit in, “I think what [Lucy] realizes is at the end of the day is just being yourself is enough and embracing the imperfection and the flaws and the silly, goofy side of her is enough, and that’s what makes her Lucy,” the talented actress shared.

“I think that’s such an important lesson that young teens should learn, and it was definitely an important lesson that Lucy taught me,” she concluded with a smile.

Aside from the stellar storyline and character growth we see throughout Home Sweet Rome, there is a musical aspect to the series that adds a bit more fun and lightheartedness.

The actress-turned-singer gets the opportunity to perform 11 original songs within the series, all of which were “written by GRAMMY and BMI Award-winning songwriters Alex Geringas, whose songs have been performed by Cher, Kelly Clarkson, Snoop Dogg, Jessie J and Dove Cameron,” as well as “Chen Neeman, who has written music for hit series [like] Hannah Montana, Shake it Up, Austin & Ally and Descendants.”

When asked what it was like combining her acting skills with her singing skills, Kensington shared with us that it was “such a dream come true.”

“Three years ago, I was not a singer… When I got the audition for Home Sweet Rome, I read it and I was like, ‘This might be my chance to prove that I am a musician,’ and I got my ukulele and I sang and I gave it my all and they loved it,” she spilled.

“What’s really amazing about our music is that Lucy goes through a really cool musical character arc. She starts out kind of insecure as a singer, and she just kind of does it for fun. She doesn’t really know if music is something she actually wants to pursue, and then halfway through the series, she realizes that maybe this is something she can do,” the critically-acclaimed actress shared with us.

Kensington Tallman experienced a VERY similar arc, ultimately discovering that “music is something that [she] can do as well” outside of just acting.

When asked her favorite song she gets to be a part of within Home Sweet Rome, she revealed to Celeb Secrets that “there is a song halfway through the series in episode six called ‘Shadows,’ and it’s a beautiful song… It’s a song that Lucy writes, and it was so fun to film and it was very intimate and it has a lot of emotion to it.”

Another one of her favorites was with her IRL bestie, Ava Ro, who plays her best friend within the show as well.

“[We] get to sing this amazing song at the end of the series and that was so much fun to film. We actually may or may not have choreographed a dance together for it, which was really fun,” Kensington gushed.

With music aside, the 14-year-old revealed to us that in general, “I think it’s such an amazing blessing to be able to reach so many different people and impact their lives in such a special way, and I just want every person to just fall in love with the show and really, especially for kids, really be able to relate to the show.”

With just one watch from start to finish, we can confirm that Home Sweet Rome is truly as relatable as it gets.

While the must-see series is currently airing worldwide on the Family Channel in Canada, Home Sweet Rome will soon premiere on MAX in the United States, BBC in the United Kingdom, RAI in Italy and ARD in Germany.
