Austin’s indie-pop/alt rock outfit White Label Analog recently dropped a new single/music video, called “Everybody Knows.”
Made up of Chris Didear (vocals), Heath Macintosh (drums, vocals), Chal Boudreaux (guitar, vocals), and Mike Fisher (bass), White Label Analog describes their sound as “indie slam disco.” The band dropped their debut EP, A Little More Time, in 2015, followed by their breakthrough full-length album In Case You Just Tuned In.
“Everybody Knows” started out as a romantic, fun love song about Didear’s relationship with his wife, then took on broader implications.
Didear says, “Considering the political climate and how the country is so divided, I thought it would be great to put a song out there with a universal message of love and acceptance that was all about connecting with others and inclusivity. I wanted the video to be really lighthearted and joyful but not cheesy, and we thought, what could be more spontaneous and full of life than a pool party?”
In a bold move, the song utilizes more synth and percussion than the band’s usual guitar-dominated sound, perhaps heralding a new direction for White Label Analog. The video revolves around a pool party where people from all walks of life are simply enjoying life and having fun.
“Everybody Knows” opens with a pop-flavored intro flowing into a pop-rock tune full of infectious energy and streaming colors. Didear’s voice infuses the song with rich, creamy resonance, as radiant vocal harmonies suffuse the backdrop. The flow of the harmonics is iridescent, glowing with buoyant flavors and a compelling rhythm.
The lyrics are infectious and quixotic.
“We’re not confused, we know our place / We get so high can’t feel our face / No ordinary life will do, I’ve waited my whole life for you.”
White Label Analog definitely has it going on. “Everybody Knows” is full of coruscating dynamism.
